Tim McGraw says when the woman grabbed him during his recent concert he "reacted in an instinctive, defensive way."
The country star tells "ET Canada" it was "an unfortunate situation...all the way around," and something that "happened in a split second." He says "nobody feels good about it, but there's nothing that could be done about it." Tim adds that as a performer he's "out there" and "vulnerable," and "things happen and sometimes you react."
The incident occurred at Tim's July 13th concert in Atlanta. A now widely-circulated fan-shot video shows the woman grabbing McGraw's upper thigh, ripping the singer's jeans as he swats her hand away. He then leans over and slaps her again in the head.
An unnamed Atlanta police source tell TMZ.com authorities the woman hasn't filed a complaint, but they'll will look into the incident if she does. The source also adds that police have seen the video believe the woman acted aggressively toward McGraw, and his slap was "a common reaction" to such an attack.
